2028 Olympic & Paralympic Games Economic Impact Analysis and Goals Framework report
In May 2024, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a motion introduced by Supervisors Holly J. Mitchell and Hilda L. Solis directing the County’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), DEO, and other relevant departments to partner with a consultant to conduct a comprehensive economic impact and opportunity analysis of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This work was undertaken to help the County better understand both the opportunities and potential challenges associated with hosting a global event of this scale, and to identify strategies that maximize positive outcomes for communities across the region.
As Los Angeles prepares to welcome the world for the 2028 Games, significant impacts are anticipated—from job creation and workforce development to infrastructure improvements and small business growth. This moment represents a once‑in‑a‑generation opportunity to ensure long‑lasting benefits for residents, workers, and local businesses. At the same time, the County recognizes the importance of careful planning to avoid unintended consequences and to ensure that all communities share in the Games’ economic potential.
The resulting report outlines key findings, challenges, goals, and commitments to guide the County’s approach in the years ahead. These insights will serve as a foundation for future planning, program development, and community engagement.
