LA County Economic Opportunity
Grant Program (EOG)
Overview
DEO has closed the LA County Economic Opportunity Grant (EOG) Program, a landmark initiative launched by the County to offer direct financial relief to the region’s microbusinesses, small businesses and nonprofits, recognizing their disproportionate impacts from COVID-19 and other recent economic disruptions, as well as their essential contributions to communities.
Across five phases, EOG awarded 5,302 grants totaling $56.3 million, consolidating federal American Rescue Plan Act and California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA) funds through a single platform to streamline access when seeking urgent relief. Grants ranged from $2,500 to $25,000 to help small businesses, non-profits, and microbusinesses recover and stabilize post disruption.
Phase 1 – Microbusiness
2,381 microbusinesses funded totaling $5.952 million in grant awards focused on the smallest and most vulnerable micro businesses.
Phase 2 – Small Business and Nonprofit
2,407 microbusinesses, small businesses and nonprofits funded totaling $45.756 million in grant awards, expanding the program’s focus to larger small businesses and nonprofits in LA County’s most COVID-impacted communities.
Phase 3 – Entertainment Business Interruption Fund
363 small businesses funded through Phase 3, totaling $4.011 million in grant awards. This phase acknowledged the dual burdens of the pandemic and historic double Hollywood strikes through a focus on businesses serving the entertainment industry.
Phase 4 – Holiday Grants
131 microbusinesses, small businesses and nonprofits funded through Phase 4 totaling $484,000 in grant awards. This phase boosted stability during below average spending holiday seasons.
Phase 5 – Chambers of Commerce
20 Chambers of Commerce funded through Phase 5 totaling $100,000 in grant awards, recognizing the direct line of aid provided by local chambers to help small businesses start, grow and stabilize during economic disruptions.
For Phases 1 – 3, DEO partnered with Lendistry to create a single, centralized, and multilingual application portal and guidelines and the Los Angeles Regional Small Business Development Network and 13+ community-based organizations to provide robust multilingual and culturally competent outreach and application assistance.
