LA County Brings Path to 2028 Olympics and Paralympic Games to the Westside on October 8, Joining Four Cities to Prepare Local Businesses for Major Economic Opportunities
Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath and Representatives from the Culver City, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica to Join Regional Leadership Conversation on Preparing for LA28 and Beyond
Los Angeles, CA — The Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO), in partnership with the cities of Culver City, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica, will host a regional Path to 2028 event on Thursday, October 8, bringing together local leaders and businesses to prepare for contracting, procurement and economic opportunities leading up to the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games and other major events coming to the Los Angeles region.
The event is part of DEO’s LA County x 88 Cities & Unincorporated Areas – Path to 2028, a countywide initiative bringing business-readiness workshops directly into communities across Los Angeles County. The series is designed to ensure that small, local and diverse businesses have the information, tools and technical assistance they need to compete for opportunities associated with LA28, Los Angeles County procurement and the broader regional economy. The October 8 event will open with a regional leadership panel featuring Los Angeles County Third District Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath, and representatives from each of the participating cities. The discussion will be moderated by DEO and will explore how cities are preparing their businesses and communities for LA28 and other major economic opportunities, including major sporting and entertainment events.
Following the panel, DEO will lead its Get Ready, Get Set, Go business-readiness workshop, providing practical guidance on certifications, vendor registration, identifying contracting opportunities, navigating solicitations, preparing competitive bids and proposals, and accessing workforce and hiring resources related to the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Businesses will then have an opportunity to connect directly with representatives from each participating city, DEO and business-serving partners for individualized assistance.
“LA28 is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to bring investment, visitors, and economic opportunity to communities across Los Angeles County,” said Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath. “Los Angeles County is here to make sure our small and local businesses are ready to compete—and have a real pathway to benefit. By working together now, we can make sure the opportunities created by LA28 reach our local businesses and continue to strengthen our economy long after the Games are over.”
“Culver City is home to an incredible community of entrepreneurs, creative businesses and small businesses that contribute to both our local economy and the broader Los Angeles region,” said Culver City Mayor Freddy Puza. “With the World Cup, Olympic and Paralympic Games and other major events coming to our region, preparation is critical. Path to 2028 gives businesses practical tools to identify upcoming opportunities and take steps now to be ready to compete for them.”
“Small businesses are central to West Hollywood’s identity and economic vitality,” said City of West Hollywood Mayor John Heilman. “As our region prepares to welcome millions of visitors in the years ahead, we want to make sure our local businesses have the opportunity to reach new customers. That means we need to help our businesses understand procurement opportunities. We also need to connect businesses to resources, which will help them succeed as well as welcome the Olympics to Southern California.”
“Beverly Hills understands the economic impact that major international events can bring to our region, particularly for businesses in hospitality, retail, dining and professional services,” said Beverly Hills Vice Mayor Mary N. Wells. “By beginning this work now and collaborating across city boundaries, we can help businesses prepare for the Games while building relationships and capabilities that create opportunities well beyond 2028.”
“Santa Monica is a gateway to Los Angeles and a destination for visitors from around the world, but the success of major events must also be measured by what they deliver for the people and businesses that call our region home,” said Santa Monica Mayor Caroline Torosis. “Path to 2028 is about making sure our small businesses have a seat at the table and the support they need to translate this moment into lasting local economic opportunity.”
“The Olympics and Paralympics may be the destination, but the path to 2028 is where we have an opportunity to create lasting economic impact,” said Kelly LoBianco, Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity. “Our job is to make sure businesses do not hear about opportunities after they have passed them by. We want them registered, certified, connected and competitive before opportunities hit the street. By working alongside our cities, we can build a stronger regional supplier ecosystem that helps local businesses compete for LA28, County contracts and opportunities well beyond the Games.”
